Yuvashri Harish

Bio

Yuvashri Harish (she/her) is a neurodivergent Tamil author of SFF and horror for YA and adult audiences, living on Gadigal land. Her writing features messy brown girls in dramatic, magical and often terrifying situations, where they are the protagonists of their own narrative. When she isn’t writing, you can usually find her eating pasta, watching Bob’s Burgers, and providing free employment law advice and assistance for people in need. Her debut YA horror, KILL YOUR DARLINGS, releases Fall 2026 with Putnam Children’s. Her short fiction has appeared in bodyfluids. Yuva is represented by Keir Alekseii of Azantian Literary Agency.

Conscious of how much more fulfilling community has made her own journey, Yuva is keen to support authors from underrepresented backgrounds, and to use her knowledge of craft and literature to help her mentee transform their manuscript into the best version of itself. Yuva is open to mentoring MG, YA and Adult SFF, horror, thrillers and mysteries. Give her your imperfect, violent protagonists, your uncomfortable, squirmy relationships, all the blood, teeth and knives, and don’t forget the creepy-crawly things in the dark!

MSWL

Send me your SFF, horror, mystery and thriller novels! I’m fairly equal opportunity to most subgenres (especially in horror), unless noted specifically below, and if you’ve got representation from marginalised communities, even better!

IN GENERAL, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE:

  • BIPOC/queer/disabled/chronically ill characters, particularly South Asian and/or queer characters. Give me all that intersectional rep if you have it!

  • Complicated, messy not always healthy relationships (platonic or romantic) — something that will turn me into a defensive, nail-biting version of myself.

  • A hooky premise — if you can describe it as X meets Y, that’s usually my cup of tea!

  • Give me your superheroes, your multiverses, your eldritch horrors, your biopunk, and your epic/high fantasies.

  • If you’ve got dragons or big monsters, I’ll probably be a fan.

  • Vast, sprawling worldbuilding.

  • Dark, twisty, fast-paced stories.

  • Voicey, lyrical prose.

  • Revenge of the marginalised.

  • Any underlying metaphor or frankly unhinged fixation on bodies and body parts will probably thrill me.

I’M NOT LOOKING FOR:

  • I don’t mind a romantic side plot, but if the story wouldn’t exist without the romance or if your protagonist wouldn’t end up in a different place at the end of the story without the romance, I’m probably not the best fit.

  • Space cowboys, space pirates, cyberpunk/steampunk, sword-and-sorcery or paranormal romance stories.

  • Historical fiction that’s set after the 17th century.

  • Animal protagonists.

  • Anything that has a heist, even speculative ones.

  • Anything that lionises the military or the police without acknowledging their issues.

  • Anything that’s full-on contemporary with no speculative twist unless it’s a horror/thriller/mystery novel.

  • Anyone looking to self-publish, as I don’t have much expertise or experience in that side of the industry!
