Raven Traylor
Bio
Raven Traylor (she/they) is an author of contemporary and speculative young adult fiction. She is represented by Ramona Pina at BookEnds Literary Agency and is currently on with a YA speculative novel inspired by her love of eighties movies, music, and time travel. Throughout her writing career, Raven has done freelance narratives for companies such as Amazon and Maybelline. As a neurodivergent person with a short attention span, she tackles many endeavors outside of writing. Raven is a masters-level social worker and therapist by day and a fashion designer, amateur DJ, and big sister when she has the time. She’s a sucker for anything time travel, horror, or music related, especially throwback pop and R&B. Born and raised in Louisiana, she currently lives in the metro Atlanta area where she enjoys spending time with family and avoids rush-hour traffic by embracing her introversion.
As a former mentee of Author Mentor Match, Raven knows what it's like to be on the other side with all the nerves and excitement that comes from sharing your work with fellow authors. She looks forward to falling in love with your story and its characters and will be one of your biggest cheerleaders (how else would she put her high school cheer experience to use these days). Though she loves a good, twisty plot, Raven is passionate about character-driven narratives told from the POV of a marginalized person, especially Black, queer, or neurodivergent perspectives. Unlike most writers, revisions are Raven's favorite part of the writing process. She loves finding ways to push stories to their highest potential, and she looks forward to bringing out your best.
MSWL
I'm pretty open to any YA with well-developed characters, a unique concept, and rep from underrepresented communities. However, as a mentor, I'd be the best fit for contemporary, speculative (including light sci-fi), and horror stories. I also enjoy contemporary fantasies in the vein of Legendborn by Tracy Deonn and Blood Debts by Terry J. Benton-Walker. As a Black, queer, disabled, neurodivergent person, I'm dedicated to centering BIPOC, queer, disabled, and other underrepresented voices. I'm mostly drawn to first person POV narratives and characters whose voices echo off the page with authenticity and personality (bonus points if they can trick my Scorpio Moon into allowing me to cry). Additionally, I'm a sucker for close familial relationships and anything to do with Halloween, morally gray characters, unreliable narrators, slashers, music, or time travel (near future or recent past).
Some of my recent favorite books:
Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas
The Black Queen by Jumata Emill
Blood Debts by Terry J. Benton-Walker
