Bayley Mae

Bio

Bayley Mae (she/her) writes fantasy, thriller, and horror. She is represented by Jenissa Graham at BookEnds Literary. As someone who is neurodivergent, she has a short attention span and constantly has her mind overflowing with creativity, from crocheting to watching her favorite comedians play D&D. Between living in Texas, California, Massachusetts, and now D.C., Bayley never really has an answer when people ask where she’s from.

As a former Author Mentor Match mentee, Bayley knows what it’s like to be on the other side of a mentor partnership and she’s excited to apply what she’s learned to help her mentee through revisions. She’s a sucker for a unique portal fantasy or anything involving Halloween. With a background in science, she loves when science is incorporated into books in exciting ways. While open to various categories, magical and spooky middle grade and young adult thrillers are her wheelhouse.

MSWL

As a fan of magic and monsters myself, I’m pretty open to any story that explores things that are whimsical and spooky. While I love reading a variety of books, as a mentor I’d be the best fit for any middle grade (except for non-speculative contemporary) and young adult thrillers/horror. Well-developed characters are important, but I really look for a fun and twisty plot, especially in the MG space. I’m particularly looking for books centering queer, BIPOC, neurodivergent, and other underrepresented voices as well as stories specifically revolving around chronic pain.

Genres:

MG: all genres (except for contemporary without a speculative/thriller element)

YA: thrillers/horror

Some things that I love:

·      Boarding school settings

·      Settings as a character

·      Mysteries as both a plot or subplot

·      Anything kooky, whimsical, spooky

·      Complex family dynamics

·      Fun, fast-paced plots

·      Halloween-centered stories or slashers

·      Stories involving characters who are LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, neurodivergent, or living with chronic pain

I’m not the best fit for:

·      ANY pet death

·      SA/any abuse on the page

·      Mental health used as a twist

·      Animal protagonists

·      Stories where a character with a disability/chronic pain finds a “magic cure” to solve their problems

·      POVs involving an identity the author does not share

·      Contemporary stories that are not thrillers or do not have a speculative aspect

·      Time travel—while I think it’s fun, I have a hard time wrapping my head around it

·      Dual POV fantasy

·      Manuscripts intended for self-publishing—I don’t have the expertise for this and I don’t think I would be particularly helpful
